Lela Kaplowitz is a Croatian jazz vocalist known for her expressive voice and artistic approach that transforms everyday emotions into refined musical storytelling. She began singing professionally at the age of 16 and later studied vocal improvisation in Graz and New York with renowned jazz musicians such as Sheila Jordan, Jay Clayton, Barry Harris, and Mark Murphy.
During her time in New York, she performed at iconic venues including Madison Square Garden, Birdland, Blue Note, and Dizzy’s Club, collaborating with artists such as Arturo O’Farrill, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, and 2Cellos. She has also appeared at major festivals across Europe and the United States.
In 2009, she won the “Lady Summertime” award in Finland, one of the world’s leading female jazz vocal competitions. She has released several albums, including To One (2019), which she presented at Carnegie Hall.
Alongside performing, Kaplowitz is an active vocal coach, dedicated to teaching jazz improvisation and vocal technique. She continues to record, perform, and develop new projects, including reinterpretations of Croatian songs in a jazz style.
