Brkovi is a punk-folk band from Zagreb, Croatia, that refuses to take themselves or the music industry too seriously. Founded in 2004, they describe their sound as “PunkFolkWellness”, blending punk rock, turbo-folk, metal riffs and Balkan humour into high-octane, off-beat party anthems.
Led by frontman Shamso69, Brkovi built their reputation by doing everything on their own: no mainstream radio, no major label backing, free downloads of albums, and a straight-up DIY mindset. They’ve never hidden it—“We do everything ourselves, without filter,” says Shamso. They’ve played to crowds of thousands even without traditional media support and pride themselves on being “a provocation in Croatia’s music space.”
Despite their often outrageous style and refusal to fit in, Brkovi have released multiple studio albums, toured the region and carved out a devoted following. They may not play by the rules—but they’ve made their own.
