Barbara Munjas is a musician that has been present on the Croatian music scene since her high school days when after entering Dora (Croatian Eurovision Song Contest) at the last moment in 2007, she became a member of the legendary Croatian band Gustafi, which she stayed until the end of 2012. With the Gustafi she performed at around three hundred concerts at many festivals, played with the band as the opening concert for Manu Chao, worked on two albums, traveled the world, and gained stage experience. At the beginning of 2013, Munjas founded her own band Barbari, in which she began with her own author’s expression, writing her music and lyrics. With Barbari she released two albums, “Monfiorenzo underground” and “Santa Barbara“, both of which were well received by the audience and critics. In 2015, the Barbarians won the Karlovačko Rock&Off award for the best performance.
With a new single within the Calligraphy project in 2018, Barbara Munjas embarked on a new adventure under her name. With the song “Men” she announces a different sound and aesthetic from the one in Barbari, slightly developing everything she presents with the album “Right place & right time“. In the meantime, she released singles, and one of them, “Gone Back“, in which she talks about her encounter with anxiety and depression, won the song of the year title on the music portal muzika.hr and the AMVA award for the best indie video. In that period, Munjas also composed music for two theater plays.
With her debut album “Right place & right time“, she draws attention with numerous excellent reviews, of which the one written for Soundguardian by Toni Matošin mentions that it is “the author’s masterpiece”, while Boris Abramović thinks that “With “Right place & Right time” by Barbara Munjas we got another outstanding member of the fantastic Croatian girl power scene” and that he sees no reason why “Right place & right time” should not be declared as the album of the year this year at “Rock&Off”.
