Antenat is a genre-blending band from Zagreb, Croatia, formed in 1997 by five friends who started making music together while still in elementary school. What began as a simple rock setup has evolved into a distinctive sound they call Sub Reggae — an energetic fusion of African polyrhythms, reggae skanks, afrobeat brass lines, the drive of ska, desert blues guitar licks, and the atmospheric depth of dub. Their music is impossible to ignore on the dancefloor, with lyrics celebrating freedom, nature, and collective spirit that often turn audiences into a choir.
The band’s first albums, Subing (2006) and Karavana (2008), built their foundation in reggae, ska, and dub, while Izlet (2013) expanded their horizons with a strong influence from African music. In recent years, Antenat has released several singles announcing a highly anticipated new album.
Antenat today still features the original five members: frontman and percussionist Nenad Kovačić, drummer Bojan Horvat, bassist Davor Barišić, and guitarists Boris Vidošević and Marko Fiket. Keyboardist Frederic Lanz, trumpeter Jura Borić, and saxophonist Mak Murtić, a leading figure in the Croatian jazz scene, join them.
Over the years, Antenat have toured extensively across France, Italy, Greece, Germany, and the wider ex-Yugoslav region, performing at major festivals such as INmusic, Terraneo, and Ferragosto Jam. Known for their powerful live shows and deep sense of camaraderie, Antenat continue to stand out as one of the most original and inspiring acts in the Croatian alternative scene.
