Expanding the network: WMMC’s debut at Sicily Music Conference

Sicily Music Conference once again brought together music professionals from across Europe, further positioning Palermo and Catania as important meeting points for the international music industry. This year, We Move Music Croatia joined the conference programme for the first time, taking part in a four-day schedule of panels, workshops, showcase performances and networking events.

Local scenes on global stages

A central part of the programme was the panel “GLOBAL STAGES, LOCAL SOUNDS: THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL MUSIC CONFERENCES”, featuring Mirko Burazer (WMMC). The discussion focused on the role international music conferences play in the development and international positioning of local music scenes. Using examples such as SXSW, WOMEX, Reeperbahn Festival and Eurosonic Noorderslag, the panel explored both the value of participating in major European showcase events and the level of readiness artists and bands need in order to enter such demanding markets.

While showcase conferences often create new opportunities through networking, international touring and audience development, the panel also highlighted the importance of strong professional support behind the artists themselves. Agents, managers and other music professionals play a key role in career development and international outreach, which is why the importance of investing in education and the long-term development of local music ecosystems was repeatedly emphasized throughout the discussion.

Networking and international exchange

The conference participation continued through the Speed Networking programme, where meetings were held with representatives of festivals, conferences and music organisations from several European countries. These conversations opened space for new connections and potential future collaborations within the international music sector.
